Taking inspiration from the 'Humans of AI' exhibition, I decided to recreate my own version of it using an abandoned nightclub in Newcastle I stumbled across which had a long interesting history context behind it.

I USED GOOGLE MAPS TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE BUILDING AS IT RANGED FROM 2009 TO 2021 TO SHOW THAT EVEN WITH IT BEING DERELICT THERES STILL TRACES OF WHAT ONCE WAS BEFORE.

History

But since the club closed in 2010 the building has stood empty and has fallen victim to numerous fires which have caused extensive damage to the inside and outside of the venue. The three-storey property has been left without a roof and each floor has been gutted after being engulfed by flames.

Following the venue's closure, the site was earmarked to be transformed into a modern office block in 2011. However, in the same year a blaze destroyed the building's roof and top floor when arsonists used the furnishings to start fires on the ground floor and second floor.

In July 2015, the building was hit with another fire which further destroyed the inside of the property. And in September 2016, firefighters once again responded to reports of a fire at the former nightclub after smoke was spotted billowing from the building.

A fourth blaze occurred in 2019 and damaged the balcony and decking area of the building, as well as the exterior floors and walls. Police subsequently confirmed they were treating the incident as arson.

There were also fires at the building in summer 2020, December 2021, and April 2022. The unfortunate fate of the venue over the last decade is a far cry from its vibrant past.
